Following a varied career mostly in and around the music industry, Mark finally found his true
calling in his mid-30s, when his interests in architecture and sense of moral purpose
converged, seeing him train up to become a Domestic Energy Assessor. Driven on by his
natural curiosity and desire to be more involved in retrofit delivery, he subsequently
undertook PAS2035 Retrofit Assessor training. This opened the door to working with
installers under the ‘ECO’ scheme, which also opened Mark’s eyes as to the grim reality of
funded retrofit at scale in the UK. Following a short break from the industry, he was plucked
from obscurity by the nascent People Powered Retrofit co-operative in early 2022, where he
has since spent a wonderful four and a half years amassing knowledge and qualifications,
surveying homes and producing retrofit / cavity wall / thermographic and heat loss reports for
able-to-pay householders around the Northwest. This year, he became one of the first cohort
to become an associate member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors under their
new ‘Retrofit Pilot Pathway’.
